40 Years of Protecting People

Founded in Ronkonkoma, New York, in 1982 out of a passion to meet the protective clothing needs of contractors supporting NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Lakeland Industries has returned to Huntsville, AL, where its corporate headquarters are located.

Over four decades, Lakeland has grown to a multinational worker safety company, building trust, experience, expertise, and a proven track record of superior performance.

1982

Lakeland is incorporated in New York and focuses on disposable, limited use protective industrial garments and specialty work gloves.

1983

1st order ships from Decatur facility.

OSHA enacts minimum requirements for communicating hazards to employees.

1985

Lakeland generates more than $10 million in revenue for the first time.

1986

The company is reincorporated in Delaware and goes public.

Lakeland enters the Fire and Chemical markets.

1987

Lakeland begins to offer products used in hospitals, nursing homes, and the hospitality industry.

Sales expanded to Canada.

A Mexican subsidiary is established.

Decatur operation is expanded, adding engineering and technical operator positions.

1997

Lakeland Protective Wear Inc. established in Burlington, Ontario.

In response to the largest Ebola outbreak in history, Lakeland shifts production to help meet the need for protective suits for healthcare workers.
